Ian Brothers and his golden retriever Ollie have won this year’s BASC Chudleys scurry league for the second year in succession.
In second place, also for the second year running, was Roland Ward with his labrador Barney. He was followed by Sue Currington with her labrador Saffy. Fourth place was taken by Brian Chesser with his labrador Barley.
A scurry is a timed retrieving competition for dogs. More than 900 people took part in this year’s competition. Qualifying events were held at venues across the UK during the spring and summer.
Anyone who came first, second or third in each scurry won prizes of Chudleys dog food on the day and league points, meaning more than 100 people gained places on the league table.
A presentation to the top four placed owners and dogs and a prize draw for the rest of the league took place at the Midland Game Fair. Ian Brothers was presented with the annual scurry league trophy. Winners were presented with their prizes by Phillipa Gilmore of Chudleys and received Chudleys dog food vouchers, a specially commissioned hand engraved piece of glassware from Kara Slater Engravings, a handcrafted walking stick made by Ernest Wilson and Rivers West waterproof clothing.
BASC game and gamekeeping officer Stephen Buckley said: "Despite some of the events being cancelled due to the wet weather, we had a very successful programme held across the country with more than 100 people gaining points on the scurry league. Congratulations once again to the winner Ian Brothers with his dog Ollie who repeated their success of last year. Our sincere thanks go to our main sponsor Chudleys and also to Kara Slater, Ernest Wilson, Rivers West and Lite Launcher as well as all of the volunteers who helped put on the scurries."

Dates for the 2013 scurry league will be announced in the new year.
