Launch of the revamped Great Fulford Estate Shoot

The Great Fulford Estate Shoot, Dartmoor, Devon, has been restored to its former glory offering new facilities and new drives and shooting will resume this season.

The Great Fulford Estate Shoot has been restored by an enthusiastic and committed new management team of Mr James McKenzie and Mr Guy Imray.

New drives offering some spectacular high pheasants and partridges have been developed by the team together with their very experienced gamekeeper Mr James Hancock. These, together with great facilities and atmosphere, will ensure an exciting day for all.

Situated in the heart of Devon, The Great Fulford Estate Shoot can be found quickly off the A30 arterial route and only minutes from Exeter airport. The shoot is renowned for its stunning topography, natural beauty and wildlife, allowing some of the finest and most challenging game shooting in the country.

James Hancock, Gamekeeper of The Great Fulford Estate Shoot, said:
“Hailing from Devon I am very proud to be involved in the Great Fulford Estate Shoot especially for this opening season.  In my view the potential this estate has to offer is outstanding, it will be one of the South West’s best.”

The shoot also received investment funds of £3,500 from Country Sports South West, a regional project to help to create a premier country sports destination. Country Sports South West, a project being delivered by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), assisted with expert advice and investment funds towards two new large release pens on parts of the estate that were not used previously. The changes have helped create more drives, allowing greater flexibility to suit different shooters’ skills.

Annette Cole, Senior Manager of Country Sports South West, said:
“The Great Fulford Estate Shoot has so much potential and we were delighted to have offered our advice and expertise to this huge project. Shooting is worth £270M to the region annually and having a new revitalized shoot available will definitely help to attract more country sport visitors to the county.”

The shoot now has approximately 25-30 different drives offering a complete range to suit all abilities, including the highest (Pheasants’ Revenge) which will test the best guns.  The shoot day begins and ends in the semi-fortified mansion that originally dates back to the 14th century with views across the lake and parkland. Guns and guests are greeted when they arrive with coffee and rolls, a mid-morning break is held in the field with drinks, hot soup, coffee, teas and home-made snacks. At the end of the day there is a shoot dinner at Great Fulford House. When the guns leave they are presented with a brace of birds dressed ready for the oven, or in full feather if preferred.

A small number of syndicate places are available together with a limited number of let days of between 200 – 350 birds from mid-October onwards for teams of up to 9 guns. Boundary and walked-up days can be arranged subject to early booking.
