Introduction to Woodpigeon Shooting course

On 11 August the south east regional centre hosted the first “Introduction to woodpigeon shooting” course held in the region. Those attending ranged from the total novice to those whom had dabbled in pigeon shooting for a number of years without major success.

The course covered issues of pigeon ecology, the general license and wildlife law as well as quarry identification before practical exercises on pattern testing, range judging, hide building and setting out decoys. The course members were also shown a wide variety of commercially available equipment covering the merits and pitfalls of each.

The delegates left the course with an improved understanding of the art of woodpigeon shooting. Having spoken with one candidate since he has put the theory in to practice, shooting over 300 woodpigeon with a team of three others just days after attending the course.
