BASC shotgun coach Peter Knox has been nominated for the Torch Trophy Trust Awards, which are presented annually to celebrate the vital work of unsung volunteers.

The 80-year-old has been a valuable BASC volunteer for many years, but has been coaching since 1966.

BASC chief executive Richard Ali said: “Peter is passionate about shooting shotguns and is keen to pass on his knowledge to as many as possible. He is still a very active volunteer and is a credit to shooting. We are proud to have him as part of the BASC family and proud that his sterling efforts over the years are now being celebrated at a national level.”

The Torch Trophy Trust charity set up its awards scheme in 1963 to recognise and celebrate volunteers in local communities who have shown outstanding work and dedication to sport.

Peter will collect his award from His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent at a ceremony at the Army and Navy Club in London, but his work has also been highlighted in a commemorative booklet which will be presented on the night.

The citation reads: “Peter has introduced and encouraged many people to the sport; he is always spreading the message about conservation and the sportsmanship involved in shooting.

“Peter has remained passionate about shooting and conservation and is always happy to pass on his knowledge, remaining a very active member of the volunteer team. He is a true advocate for conservation and represents the heartbeat of the sport. “

Peter said: “It is an honour to be nominated for an award such as this. But I would like to think I am there on behalf of all those who volunteer their time for all types of sport. Often, without their commitment, there would be no sporting events.”
