BASC South East held a Gundog evening on Friday 14 September at East Dean village hall, East Dean, East Sussex. The evening, which was sponsored by Chudleys working dog food, was very well supported with some people travelling a considerable distance to attend.
After a short introduction by Justin Clarke, South Eastern Regional Officer, the evening started with Vicky Paine BMedVet. MRCVS, who gave a presentation on first aid in the field. Vicky’s talk was most informative, and she was ably assisted by ‘Quincy’ her Springer spaniel who helped demonstrate various first aid techniques, much to the amusement of the audience.
After a short break for refreshments, which included the chance to sample some traditional ale brewed by ‘Beach Head Brewery’, the event continued with a Q & A session with the panel of field trial judges. Gwen Butcher, Stewart Seward, Roger Wade and Justin took questions on a range of subjects. Topics included areas such as basic training to how the appointment of field trial judges could be improved.
Following on from this, Vicky Payne then gave the second of her two presentations; this time the subject matter being nutrition.
There were a number of regional gundog clubs present on the evening and BASC South East would like to particularly thank both the ‘South Eastern Gundog Society’ (SEG’s) and the ‘Mid Sussex Working Spaniel Club’ for their support. Our thanks must also go to our Panel of Judges Gwen, Roger and Stewart. And not least to Vicky Payne (and Quincy) for their excellent presentations.
The evening concluded with a raffle which offered the chance to win some fantastic gundog related prizes. The evening eventually finished at around 10.30pm with everyone heading home. We are most grateful to the following people for donating the raffle prizes: Chudleys, Rakers, Sporting Saint, Turner Richards and Outdoor Country Store.
