The first Young Shots improvers’ day in Wales was held at the Mid Wales Shooting Centre, Trefeglwys in April when over 20 Young Shots enjoyed a day dedicated entirely to shotgun shooting. Alan Booth, BASC firearms officer, presented a history of firearms, followed by a session on the law with Dyfed-Powys firearms enquiry officer, Matthew Hand. After explaining how to apply for a shotgun certificate, Matthew quickly ran out of his stock of application forms!
Other sessions followed on safety, types of shotgun and cartridges, pattern plate firing and range judging and then it was down to some concentrated shotgun coaching, finishing off with a team flush. Further such days are planned for the future.
