Young people from across the South West of England are being invited to attend an introduction to country sports day hosted by the UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC). The event will be held on 20th June at Escot House, Ottery St Mary, Devon.
This day, which costs £30 and includes a full year’s BASC Young Shots membership, is designed as an introduction to shooting and countryside sports and is suitable for people aged between 10 and 20-years-old. The day includes shotgun shooting with BASC-qualified coaches and supervised airgun shooting on the Air Arms Sharp Shooter electronic targets system. People will be able to take part in a woodland and wetlands adventure – a guided tour of the conservation work at Escot House.
There will also be ring demonstrations of wildfowling, pigeon shooting, falconry, black powder ammunition and gundogs.
Individuals and groups from the Young Farmers, Scouts, Guides; Sea, Air and Army Cadets will take part. There will be information and advice stands on careers, deer stalking and using dogs for tracking deer and making pigeon decoys. Information on the work of the Forestry Commission and its apprenticeship scheme will be available and a gunsmith will be on hand to demonstrate their work.
