South-west shoot helps students get to grips with game

A Somerset shoot has offered to supply a local college with game so catering students can learn how to prepare game meat properly.

Sales of game have doubled in the last two years but according to south west celebrity chef Martin Blunos not many college catering students know how to deal with pheasants in the feather. Martin made the comments in an after dinner speech at BASC’s Taste of Game event at Taunton School in November.

After hearing Martin’s speech, BASC member Hugh Warmington approached Somerset College of Art and Technology and offered to provide pheasants in the feather so students could practise their game preparation skills.

Hugh said: “I was surprised and delighted at how keen the cookery school at Somerset College was to take pheasants in the feather, and I was pleased to supply them free of charge. Any opportunity to encourage the younger generation to prepare, cook and eat game must be welcomed."
