Bob Neal, a major figure on the South West shooting scene, has died suddenly at the age of 58.
Bob was a BASC member for over 20 years and had been a member of Blackmore Vale Shooting and Conservation Society and Dorset Wildfowlers for 29 years.
Jamie Stewart, BASC’s South West Regional Director, said: “Bob was always one to voice his opinion but it was for the good of shooting. He will be sadly missed.”
A tribute from his club members said it was Bob’s participation in the 1980s in setting up clay shoots and safety demonstrations at game fairs and BASC roadshows that initiated DWA to start a real estate fund, in turn raising sufficient funds to purchase Giggers Island in Poole Harbour.
Bob and his Black Labrador Barney won the BASC Gundog trophy at Crufts in 2002.
John Maiden, from Blackmore Vale Shooting and Conservation Society, said: “He was renowned for his dogs throughout the Dorset and New Forest areas.
“Bob was a true grafter and always was the engine room of club activities and had a smile for everyone.
“Blackmore Vale and all who knew him will miss him so much.”
