Land worth £2 million has been bought by wildfowling clubs across the country, with the help of loans from the Wildlife Habitat Trust (WHT).
The loans have helped to pay for more than 3,000 acres of land for clubs across the country.
The WHT is dedicated to raising and distributing funds to help with the acquisition of land either for shooting, especially wildfowling, or for nature conservation or both. It was set up in 1986 by members of the UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).
Tim Russell, secretary of the WHT, said the figure was an important milestone.
He said: “I am delighted that the WHT has enabled wildfowling clubs to buy land. This is a significant achievement. The WHT has seen an increase in applications for loans from wildfowling clubs during the last 12 months and I am sure this will continue as clubs realise the importance of owning their own land.”
The trustees welcome any further applications via www.wht.org.uk or by calling 01244 573024.
