Richard Crompton, the chief constable of Lincolnshire Police and the Association of Chief Police Officers’ lead for wildlife crime and rural affairs in England and Wales, visited the head office of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) near Wrexham.
Mr Crompton was given a tour of the site at Marford Mill, Rossett, and an overview of the association and its work. Talks were held to discuss issues including the police’s response to legitimate shooters, rural policing and poaching prevention.
The chief constable said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the BASC HQ and I was extremely impressed by the people I met and the work that they do. BASC are valued partners of UK policing and I want to help ensure that we continue to enjoy a close and productive relationship."
Tom Blades, BASC’s head of game and gamekeeping, said: “We have developed a strong working relationship with Mr Crompton and his team in his first year as the ACPO lead for wildlife crime. This relationship is vital to ensure we continue to work in partnership to improve the police’s understanding of, and response to, the real issues facing the shooting community.”
John Swift said: “Chief Constable Crompton’s visit proved to be insightful and constructive. We look forward to continuing and strengthening our partnership with him in the future.”
