My husband of 30 years, Mr. John Turner was killed in a road accident on the way home after a night’s shooting at Spean Bridge. John and his friend, both passengers were declared dead at the scene, the driver, a syndicate colleague was unhurt. The accident happen on the M9 near Stirling, Scotland on 17th March 2018.
John, who was known as Bob, absolutely loved his stalking, even when darkness fell and he was cold, wet and dirty and had not had a shot, he would say “the deer are so clever” and he truly respected them. His passion was stalking and shooting at Loch Awe, but he was also lucky enough to be in syndicates in several other good stalking areas. Bob just loved to be up the Scottish hills especially if no one had been there before, he didn’t mind the Scottish weather as he always had the correct gear and equipment.
In September myself, Bob’s brothers and close friends are going up the tallest hill where he shot at Loch Awe and we are going to build him a stone cairn with a name plaque and scatter his ashes in the place he loved.
I read the article in the July magazine Take the high road and everything I read reminded me of the conversations I had with Bob, especially about the ticks as I have had to remove several from his body using the Tick Twister after a long day stalking… quality binoculars, I personally know how expensive they are. Swarovski, not just jewellery!
