The search is on to find the sharpest-shooting gamekeeper in the UK.
The annual Gamekeepers’ National Clay Shoot Final run by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) will be held on Sunday 18th April 2010 at the association’s Gamekeepers’ Fair at Catton Park, Derbyshire. BASC has organised a number of clay pigeon shoot qualifiers to be held around the UK in March. The finalists will compete for a prestigious trophy and cash prize at the fair.
Tom Blades, BASC’s head of game and gamekeeping, encouraged people to get involved.
He said: "This clay competition is a fantastic opportunity for gamekeepers to pit their skills against each other. The final of the competition will take place over a sporting layout at this year’s Gamekeepers’ Fair – a top event in the gamekeeping calendar."
Qualifying events will be held at Mid Norfolk Shooting School on 9th March; at BASC’s Scotland Gamekeepers’ Day, Scone Palace, on 10th March; Mid Wales Shooting Centre on 13th March; West Kent Shooting School on 17th March; Edgehill Shooting Ground on 18th March; Coniston Shooting Ground on 19th March; Podimore Shooting Ground, Yeovil, Somerset, on 20th March and at Yeaveley Shooting School, Ashbourne, on 28th March.
A further prize for the best shot among student gamekeepers in Scotland will be up for grabs at the Scotland qualifier. Student keepers from Elmwood College, Borders College and North Highland College will battle it out for a shield donated by BASC member Barrie Morton.
