Gamekeeping students will be able to compete at a national inter-college clay shoot next year.
The shoot, which has been organised by BASC, will be held at Doveridge Clay Sports Club in Derbyshire on 16 March. Janssen Animal Health will be the main sponsor.
Each college can enter three teams consisting of four students to shoot a 100 bird sporting layout. The winning team will receive a trophy (sponsored by Vermx) and the top three individual high score winners will automatically qualify for the national clay shoot competition final at the Gamekeepers’ Fair at Cattton Park in April.
BASC’s game and gamekeeping officer, Stephen Toft, said: “This event is just one of the ways in which BASC is supporting colleges which provide courses in gamekeeping. Over the years the work of the gamekeeper has evolved and employers now require a different type of game manager. BASC recognises the need for change and for high quality training given that these students will play an important part in the future of our sport. This is why we are keen to support the colleges and students who provide the backbone of the profession.”
