BASC held its annual liaison meeting with the NFU and CLA on 2 June where various topical issues were discussed ranging from the possible implications to shooters of cross compliance (where farmers must meet certain standards concerning public, animal and plant health, the environment and animal welfare and keep their land in good agricultural and environmental condition) and the Water Framework Directive (a European Directive that aims to establish a framework for the protection of inland surface waters [rivers and lakes], transitional waters [estuaries], coastal waters and groundwater).
There was also discussion on the disposal of spent cartridges, communicable diseases such as Avian Influenza and Foot and Mouth and the effect of the credit crunch on game shooting.
Director of operations, Simon Hamlyn, said: “These meetings are always very productive as it provides the opportunity for staff from the respective organisations to discuss common areas of activity and to work closely on issues that may affect memberships of all three businesses.”
