On behalf of its members, BASC congratulates England’s shooters for their success in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
UK shooters have won medals in every single clay shooting event at the Commonwealth Games.
England’s Steve Scott and Stevan Walton struck shooting gold in the men’s double trap pairs event.
Stevan Walton also bagged a gold medal in the men’s double trap individual. Tim Kneale took the bronze medal for the Isle of Man.
There was a bronze for England’s James Huckle in the men’s 10m air rifle individual event. Kenny Parr finished fourth. Huckle won a silver with Parr in the men’s pairs 10m air rifle. The pair won also won silver in the men’s 50m rifle 3-position pairs. James Huckle also took bronze in the 50m rifle 3-position singles, with Scotland’s Jonathan Hammond winning silver. Neil Stirton and Jon Hammond also took the gold in the men’s 50m rifle prone pairs event.
The pair also won bronze in the rifle position pairs. Jon Hammond won a gold medal in the men’s 50m rifle prone final, with Northern Ireland’s Matt Hall claiming bronze.
England’s Parag Patel won gold in the full bore singles, with Northern Ireland’s David Calvert taking bronze.
It was Patel’s second medal of the day, having already won a bronze with Jon Underwood in the pairs full bore open pairs final, with Scotland’s Angus McLeod and Ian Shaw taking the silver medal.
England shooters Abbey Burton and Anita North claimed a silver medal in the women’s trap pairs. Anita North also captured gold for England in the women’s single trap event, beating Scotland’s Shona Marshall into second place.
There was an England bronze medal in the women’s pairs 25m pistol for Gorgs Geikie and Julia Lydall.
Scotland shooters Kay Copland and Jen McIntosh won gold in the women’s 50m rifle prone pairs. Silver went to England’s Michelle Smith and Sharon Lee.
Jen McIntosh also won the 50m rifle prone in a Games record score of 597-42x, breaking Carolyn Quigley’s record of 590 points, set in 1998. Wales’s Johanne Brekke came third.
England’s Richard Brickell and Clive Bramley won bronze in the men’s skeet pairs. Richard Brickell won a gold medal in the men’s skeet.
England shooter Aaron Heading won the gold medal in the men’s trap singles and bronze with David Kirk in the pairs event.
England shooter Mick Gault has failed in his bid to equal the all-time Commonwealth Games medal record.
The 55-year-old came seventh in the 25m pistol singles, which was won by Singapore’s Bin Gai, leaving him with two medals from the Delhi Games.
He stands on 17 medals, one short of the 18 won by Australian shooter Phillip Adams, who holds the record.
Mick Gault had previously come second with Nick Baxter in the 10m air pistol pairs and third in the 25m pistol pairs. He is England’s most successful Commonwealth athlete.
