Ian Brothers from Wiltshire and his golden retriever Ollie accumulated a total of 700 points to win the first BASC Chudleys scurry league.
In second place was Roland Ward, from London, with his dog Barney followed by Richard Fosbury, from Wiltshire, with his dog Summa. Fourth place was taken by Bob Clay, from Wolverhampton, with Mitzi.
There were thousands of entries in more than 100 individual scurries organised by BASC staff and volunteers which were held at venues across the UK during the spring and summer. A scurry is a timed retrieving competition for dogs.
Anyone who came first, second or third in the scurries won prizes on the day and league points, meaning more than 150 people gained places on the league table.
BASC’s head of game and gamekeeping, Glynn Evans, said: “The inaugural BASC Chudleys scurry league proved very popular. It is an inclusive competition open to all gundog owners. Well done to everyone who took part. Our thanks go to all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication and for ensuring the scurry league was a success. Our thanks also go to Chudleys, our main sponsor, as well as Gundog Gear, Lite Launcher and artist Sue Burch who all donated prizes for the league.”
A presentation to the top four placed owners and dogs and a prize draw for the rest of the league took place at the Midland Game Fair. The full list of results can be found here.
