People of all ages are invited to a fun day out at a game and country fair run by the UK’s largest shooting organisation, The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC). The BASC Gamekeepers’ fair will be held at Catton Park, Walton on Trent, Derbyshire, on 13th and 14th April 2013. The fair will be open from 9am until 5pm on both days. There is a 20% discount for advance tickets bought online at www.bascgamekeepersfair.co.uk.
Visitors can enjoy exciting arena demonstrations, shop at more than 200 quality trade stands, browse the craft and antique marquees and sample some wonderful food. Not to be missed are the cooking demonstrations in the food hall with TV chef Tim Maddams and Midlands game chef and restaurateur Ralph Skripek. Ex-Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson will also be in the food hall with produce from his new farm shop.
The Keepers’ Arms Bar and Bistro under the direction of chef Ralph Skripek will serve a mouth-watering range of game dishes including hearty breakfasts and for lunch a choice including venison sausages with onions, mushrooms and potato puree; pan-fried home-smoked pheasant; wild boar baguettes; rabbit, mushroom and bacon pie and pan-fried woodpigeon and bacon. The best in local ales will also be available.
The Kids’ Zone will feature many free interactive activities and for all those budding survival experts, 8-15 year-olds can take part in new supervised bushcraft activities. People can have a clay-shooting lesson with a BASC-accredited shotgun coach and take part in competitions including the BASC gundog scurry league, events for lurchers and terriers and stick dressing. There will be daily open clay shooting competitions and a national clay shoot for gamekeepers.
Expert advice and information will be available at the BASC stand and in the Deer and Stalking Village sponsored by BushWear.
BASC Midlands director Steve Bloomfield said: “We aim to produce a show that is a fantastic day out for the whole family – staying true to its country roots but bringing all the latest equipment, techniques and products in one place for countryside enthusiasts.”
