BASC works with Vodafone UK and Virgin Mobile to review shooting website access

BASC is working with Vodafone UK to help improve access to shooting websites via its network on a case-by-case basis. This follows Virgin Mobile’s agreement to review age-related restrictions on shooting websites.

Some shooting websites are being blocked by automatic age-restriction filters. Customers can remove content controls from their phone themselves but BASC aims to ensure that lawful shooting sports and related activities are not unduly censored. Working with two of the major mobile network providers in the UK will allow BASC to help improve access to shooting-related websites.

Conor O’Gorman, BASC’s policy development manager, said: “Shooting plays an important role in the countryside, contributing to land management and conservation. We welcome Vodafone UK’s helpful approach to making more content available to its customers. BASC will compile details of sites which fall under the blocking software and forward them to the mobile companies for review. “

BASC has set up a web page that people can bookmark on their mobile phones and then use to report blocked websites. The page contains a list of websites which BASC has asked both Virgin Mobile and Vodafone UK to unblock as well as feedback on other mobile phone companies. Please click here
