Scotland’s Natural Larder, a partnership between BASC and Scottish National Heritage (SNH), are sponsoring this weekend’s Dundee Flower and Food Festival.
Celebrity chefs and Scottish food champions Gary MacLean, Tony Singh and Nick Nairn will all be in attendance, at the Camperdown Country Park, to showcase the very best of Scotland’s natural produce.
As well as chef demonstrations visitors will be able to experience the taste, touch and smell of Scotland’s Natural Larder including nettles, rabbit and venison with various demonstrations throughout the three days.
Nicolle Hamilton, press and policy officer for BASC Scotland, said: “We want to reconnect people with where their food comes from and the methods used to harvest it. Visitors to the festival will be able to experience unusual tastes and ingredients that are all available to them locally. With the arrival of autumn, game such as partridge and pheasant will be in season and widely available along with foraged ingredients such as mushrooms.”
SNH spokesman Pete Moore added: “Scotland has a fantastic natural larder and we are keen to make everyone aware of the exciting range of food available through the seasons. Using fresh local produce and getting outside to find some foraged flavours is a great way to connect with nature and add some natural spice to your life. Our selection of recipe cards will help you make the most of the local meat, fruits, flowers and vegetables that can be bought or found locally.”
SNL, which launched in 2012, is aimed at reconnecting people with food that has been sustainably harvested or hunted.
The festival runs from Friday 1st September – Sunday 3rd September, with prices starting from just £9. Tickets are available online at www.dundeebox.co.uk or can be bought on the day.
