Two country sports days have been arranged by Country Sports South West – one for girls and one for girls and boys.
The days are designed to offer people aged between eight and 18-years-old a fun day out where they can sample a range of country sports activities. The activities will include clay shooting, coarse fishing, archery, gundog handling, falconry, rifle shooting and field craft. The cost is £20 per child per day.
Country Sports South West is an EU-funded tourism project. It is aimed at developing and promoting country sports across the region and is being delivered by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).
Annette Cole, senior manager of Country Sports South West, said:
“We felt it was important to also offer a separate girls only day as we know that many girls really want to have a go at country sports but might be shy in a mixed environment. Girls are often known for excelling in gun dog handing and falconry so it was important these sports where included as well as the others. The girls will be able to have a go at all of the activities on offer with other like-minded people and have fun at the same time.”

“Newbarn Farm has for some time promoted and encouraged juniors to take part in country sports. We have now reached a pinnacle by partnering with Country Sports South West to promote these activities to a wider public. We are sure anybody attending will go home with a better understanding of the different events and maybe make a choice of which one or two sports they would like to pursue. Regardless it is going to be a fun day so come along and see what’s on offer.”
