An expanded trophy measuring service has been announced between the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), the British Deer Society (BDS) and Blaze Publishing.
The addition of the BDS as a new partner provides more opportunities for stalkers to have their trophies measured and adds further credibility to what is a successful and established service. For example at the CLA Game Fair the measuring service will be offered at both the BDS and BASC stands.
Since it was launched in 2011 the scheme has gone from strength to strength with number of heads measured increasing year on year. Records of trophies, particularly when cross-referenced to age can demonstrate good or poor management and are an important tool when managing deer populations. The data from measuring can also give a detailed picture about the quality of the animals across the country and over time.
Sarah Stride, General Manager of the BDS, said: “We are delighted to be joining this prestigious measuring service and look forward to working in alliance to ensure good deer management across the UK. We are pleased to be able to offer this service to our members.”
Mike Sherman, Chairman of BASC’s deer stalking committee, said: “I’m delighted to welcome the BDS in to our prominent trophy measuring service. It is of real benefit to our members and to be able to offer this with the BDS can only strengthen trophy measuring as a whole”.
Wes Stanton, Managing Director of Blaze publishing, said: “We welcome the BDS into our extremely popular and well recognised trophy measuring service. The service has grown in popularity and continues to grow at an amazing rate. This will not only benefit the members of BASC, BDS and Sporting Rifle readers but will encourage good deer management across the UK and provide data to be used to review trends across the UK.”
The BASC, Sporting Rifle and BDS trophy measuring service will be available at the CLA game fair Harewood House, 31st July 2015 – 2nd August 2015 offering its services at both BASC and BDS stands. Bring your trophy heads along; BASC & BDS members get the first one measured free.
