Clay shooting teams from Oxford and Cambridge universities went head to head in a varsity competition supported by BASC.
Three teams from each university took part in the competition at Cambridge Gun Club with individuals facing 100 clays over a sporting layout.
Simon Reinhold, BASC Central assistant director, said: “We are delighted to have sponsored the clay shooting competition between Oxford and Cambridge.
“A Varsity match in any sport is always keenly contested and we witnessed a high level of competition at one of the best shooting grounds in the East of England. We had a dramatic day at Cambridge Gun Club in the Varsity match. The conditions were challenging to say the least and the weather ranged from bright sunshine to hail with thunder and lightning.
“The competition was fierce with Oxford taking the Mens 1st’s win by 13 targets, they also took the Mens 2nd’s convincingly. The ladies’ competition was very close and went to Cambridge by six targets. A Varsity match is always keenly contested but it was played out in a great atmosphere and we are already looking forward to next year.”
Richard Wilson, who has helped co-ordinate the event, said: “It was really in the vein of the other Varsity matches between Oxford and Cambridge, such as the world-renowned boat race. It’s primarily a contest of reputation.”
