Oxford and Cambridge go head to head in clay competition sponsored by BASC

Clay shooting teams from Oxford and Cambridge universities went head to head in a varsity competition supported by BASC.

Three teams from each university took part in the competition at E.J Churchill Shooting Ground, Buckinghamshire, with individuals facing 100 clays over a sporting layout.

Louise Farmer, BASC Central regional officer, said: “I was extremely impressed with the determination and focus shown by all of the young shooters at the Varsity Clay Shoot whom, despite the low temperatures, gusty winds and constant snow flurries throughout the day, managed to achieve some impressive scores in quite challenging conditions.

“The overall scores were close in both competitions. The Varsity Sporting Competition for 2018 was won by Oxford’s Men’s and Ladies’ teams and the grand finale BASC-sponsored team flush competition was won by Cambridge, allowing silverware to go home to both Universities.”

Richard Wilson, a coach and member of the Varsity committee, said: “The Cambridge and Oxford Varsity 2018 triumphed again, the annual competition was a huge success for both universities with Oxford taking victory with some outstanding shooting. The support from our sponsors has been critical to the success of the event and I would like to thank on behalf of the varsity committee, Browning Europe, Eley Hawk Ltd and BASC.”
