Mike Robinson announced as BASC’s first food ambassador

mike-robinson-2BASC, the UK’s largest shooting organisation, has appointed Mike Robinson as its first food ambassador. Mike is owner of the Michelin-starred Harwood Arms in Fulham and the multi award-winning Pot Kiln restaurant in Yattendon, Berkshire.

The role will promote the use of sustainably-sourced wild food to the wider public. Mike is a former member of BASC council.

Mike Robinson said: “I want to help take wild food to a wider audience. BASC is uniquely placed as the UK’s largest shooting organisation to sell the benefits of game meat to its members and others who shoot, but I see the opportunities for taking wild food to places it may not have gone before.

“The consumption of traditional game, such as pheasant and grouse, already makes a marvellous statement about a desire to eat what we shoot and is to be applauded. Beyond that, I am passionate about promoting a greater acceptance of other food sources, such as deer stalking, fishing and pigeon shooting, for putting fresh, wholesome, wild food on the table.

“As a manager of a number of private deer estates across 20,000 acres,  which supply chefs and restaurants throughout the UK, I know that supporting a change towards sustainably-sourced wild food can only be beneficial for the countryside and its good management.”

BASC chairman Peter Glenser said: “Mike has established a reputation as one of the UK’s finest game chefs, with exceptional culinary talent and an unparalleled working knowledge of the origins of wild food.

“He is acknowledged as a leader in his field by his peers, with his drive and passion changing the face of game dining. Wherever he goes, he loves to extol the virtues of wild food and is a credit to its heritage.

“Mike, as a former member of council, is well-known to BASC. We are privileged to be able to tap into his enthusiasm once again. It will be exciting to see what direction he can take the association’s desire to support the demand for fresh, sustainable wild food.”
