2013 Lords vs Commons clay shootMembers of the House of Lords narrowly won the annual clay-shooting competition against the House of Commons, organised by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC). The Lords took victory by five clays over the three drives of the competition, shooting at clay targets designed to simulate the flight of game birds.

The Lords’ team was captained by Lord Crathorne while Bill Wiggin MP led the Commons’ team. (Pictured: Lord Crathorne (l) Bill Wiggin MP (r) with the Holland & Holland Pol Roger cup) Bill Wiggin also took the prize as winner of a knock-out competition.

The event was held at Noble Field Sports, Squerryes Park in Kent and was sponsored by leading wine producer Pol Roger and William Evans Gun and Rifle Makers.

BASC’s political affairs manager Sam Edwards said:  “Thanks to the hospitality and organisation from the team at Noble Field Sports, MPs and Peers thoroughly enjoyed the competition. Excellent tuition meant that even novice shots were able to take part. The day also provided a unique opportunity to talk to a number of Parliamentarians about current issues which affect shooting.”
