A Taste of Sussex game evening will combine the finest local cuisine with an after-dinner talk by one of the country’s top gamekeepers.
The three-course menu at the Sussex Ox, near Alfriston, showcases the very best of Sussex game. It includes a main course which saw head chef Michael Sutherland through to the final of the Sussex Food and Drink Awards Young Chef of the Year 2016.
After dinner the Duke of Norfolk’s head keeper, Charlie Mellor, will talk about the reintroduction of grey partridges at Arundel, a project that won the 2010 gold medal in the Purdey conservation awards. Charlie heads up one of two teams of keepers at Arundel Castle and is responsible for re-establishing the wild grey partridge population. As a result the estate is rich in wildlife and biodiversity and provides a great example of how shooting and conservation go hand-in-hand.
