Scotland’s Natural Larder (SNL) has been awarded a grant worth £11,000 from the Community Food Fund (CFF) to attend a series of farmers’ markets across Scotland. ‘Adding Value to Scottish Game’ is a project aimed at promoting game meat through tastings and demonstrations. This will also forge closer links between local communities and local shoots that provide seasonal game.
People attending the markets will see game being taken from fur or feather right through to a finished product. They will then be able to taste and take away the recipes. Scotland’s Natural Larder will be attending farmers’ markets in St Andrews, Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh over the winter months. Dates will be published on the website at http://scotlandsnaturallarder.org
Project manager, BASC’s Nicolle Hamilton said; “We are delighted to be able to promote game at these events. Game is a seasonal, tasty and truly wild meat that is widely available over the winter months. There is significant scope to add value to this natural resource by demonstrating skills and giving confidence to consumers in the best practice preparation and use of game meat. This funding provides us with a unique opportunity to raise the profile of game meat in the Year of Food and Drink and give people the chance to try something new.”
A representative from the Community Food Fund said; “Adding Value to Scottish Game is supported by the Community Food Fund, which is financed by The Scottish Government and has been created to promote local food and drink, in line with Scotland’s National Food and Drink Policy”.
