People of all ages are invited to a gamekeepers’ fair run by the UK’s largest shooting organisation, The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).
The fair will be held at Catton Park, Walton on Trent, Derbyshire, on 14th and 15th April 2012.
More than 200 traders will be at the event and there will be displays, demonstrations, activities and entertainment for all ages. The main sponsor for the event is Gamekeepa Feeds and Supplies.
The event will feature a Honda ATV riding experience, where visitors can try out features and be shown how to use ATVs safely.
A gamekeeping area will include a range of specialist stalls. Central to the gamekeeping area will be the BASC stand, where visitors will be able to get advice and information from BASC staff and other experts including Countryman Chris Green and author and fox shooter Robert Bucknell.
A dedicated deer management village sponsored by BushWear and a Taste of Game food hall are set to be even bigger and better than previous years. Game preparation and cooking demonstrations will be held in the food hall on both days.
People, including beginners, can have clay shooting lessons with BASC-accredited shotgun coaches using Browning guns, Eley cartridges and Promatic traps. They will also be able to try out a specialist shooting simulator on the BushWear stand.
There will be craft and antiques marquees and gundog scurries sponsored by Chudleys dog food. The winners of the scurries will win prizes and qualify for the BASC Chudleys scurry league.
A national clay shoot for gamekeepers and an open clay shoot will be held. The prize for overall high gun in the open clay shoot is a high-grade Cesar Guerini "Gladius" semi-automatic shotgun. A prize draw will also be held, with a Cesar Guerini Roman MMI semi-automatic shotgun as the top prize.
There will also be stick-dressing and pigeon plucking competitions.
Steve Bloomfield, BASC’s Midlands regional director, said: “We aim to produce a show that is true to its roots. Keepers, stalkers, shooting men and women and country lovers from all walks of life will find a variety of entertainment that is fitting for this traditional show.”
The fair will be open from 9am until 5pm on both days.
