Ian Coghill, the longest-serving chairman of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT), has been co-opted onto BASC’s governing council.
Mr Coghill, who spent eight years as chairman of the GWCT and a 42 year career in local government, said:
“I’ve been a member of BASC so long that when I joined it was called WAGBI and as a keen supporter of all forms of shooting, I think it is essential at this time that organisations that are in the business of traditional country pursuits and the conservation benefits that flow from them have as much help and support as they can get.”
BASC chairman Peter Glenser said he was “absolutely delighted” Mr Coghill was now a member of council.
He said: “We are so pleased that somebody with Ian’s wealth of knowledge and experience has joined council and we are very much looking forward to working with him.”
BASC chief executive Ian Bell said: “It is fantastic news that council has voted to welcome Ian as a BASC Council member. Ian’s extensive skills and experience will be of great value to the association and our members.”
