The winner of BASC’s Twelfie photographic competition has taken the top spot for the second year.
Damian Smith was crowned winner of this year’s competition with his photgraph, entitled ‘Siblings picking up after an epic last drive – The next generation’.
He won first prize in last year’s Twelfie competition with his photograph ‘Monty’s Final Drive’. This year he receives a canvas and leather shotgun slip, a canvas and leather cartridge bag, a boot bag and 250 Eley game cartridges.
This year’s runner-up, Amy Hulme, will receive 250 Eley cartridges for her entry ‘A pair of Bobby Dazzlers’.
Mr Smith said: “To win for a second time is fantastic news! This year’s picture was taken after the final drive of an epic day. It was taken this year in Angus, in the picture are my children Darcy and Eve.
“Darcy is a second year beatkeeper on the estate. Eve was in the picking up team with her Cocker Spaniel Purdey and spent a fantastic three weeks on the moor. “The picture to me captures the next generation and was a proud moment to see brother and sister both picking up on such prestigious estate. Roll on next year!”
BASC chairman Peter Glenser said: “Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all who entered. I had no idea when I selected the winner that he was also last year’s winner – double congratulations to Damian.
“Both of these photographs show the beautiful upland heather scenery of Britain at its best and also the harmony between working dog and owner. The first also shows the banter on shooting days.
“The second is a scene familiar to anyone who shoots on a moor – a quick rest with dog and friends amongst spectacular scenery.”

We received a wealth of pictures from people not just grouse shooting but across the spectrum of shooting sports. A united front from all who shoot was a welcome sight and a good boost for shooting morale.”
