A team made up of a member of BASC staff, a BASC council member and two BASC members took gold in an international shooting competition on Jersey.
The team, ‘Phoenix Away’ , won the International Supershot Challenge, beating 15 other teams. Phoenix Away was made up of Mike Eveleigh, BASC’s senior firearms officer, council member Martyn Jones and BASC members Mary Eveleigh and Mike Rimmer. Mike Eveleigh took gold in the individuals category and veterans and Martyn Jones took silver. Mike Eveleigh won the Halifax International Trophy as the champion Supershot with the top score and Mary Eveleigh took the silver medal in the ladies competition.
The competition, held at the Crabbé Ranges was organised by the Jersey Target Shooting Foundation. It was raising money for Headway Jersey, Autism Jersey, and will help fund the Jersey shooting teams attending the Commonwealth Games in Queensland Australia in April 2018.
Martyn Jones said: “We have always enjoyed the competition, as the hospitality shown by the Jersey shooters to the team has been truly outstanding, and the quality of their coaching undoubtedly contributed to our success.”
Mike Eveleigh said: “Personally, I have never won anything at such a level in my life, and was genuinely quite shocked when my name was called out as the overall winner.
“If any target shooters are thinking of taking a holiday with a bit of shooting thrown in – Jersey has it! A truly beautiful island, with a real, warm welcome for shooters.”
The team took overall bronze last year.
