Commenting on BASC’s support for the tabling of a second report by former members of the Lead Ammunition Group (LAG) , BASC chairman Alan Jarrett said:
“BASC has always insisted that the LAG process should be coherent, consistent, clear and unbiased. BASC’s policy on lead ammunition is totemic: No sound evidence, no change.
“Not only were we concerned that due process was not being followed, we questioned the evidential base apparently being used to inform the LAG.
“This has been central to the work BASC has carried out to support those with a seat at the LAG table. This included process mapping and the evaluation of evidence, the commissioning of an independent review and the provision of scientific modelling. All our work was conducted as part of the constructive challenge that any scientific and information gathering process should actively welcome.
“I am immensely proud of the important and significant work that the BASC team has done to ensure prejudice and bias doesn’t win the day on lead ammunition.
“We will continue to work with our sister organisations on this important issue. Collectively, we will not let our guard drop; we will continue to insist that any review of lead ammunition is conducted on sound evidence and proper process.”
