BASC South East introduces more than 1,000 to shooting sports during month of May

BASC South East introduced more than 1,000 people to shooting sports last month.

Staff and coaches attended a number of shows, an open day, an education day, a charity clay shoot and two Young Shots days in the region.

At the Broadlands Country Show, BASC-accredited coaches gave 157 clay lessons and 338 experiences on the airgun line. At the Highclere Country Show, coaches delivered 308 clay lessons and 501 airgun experiences.

Staff also attended an education day in Kent which 2,500 children from local schools attended and 50 Young Shots were introduced to airguns, shotguns, archery, gundogs and bushcraft at two activity days.

Michelle Nudds, BASC South East officer, said: “What a busy but fantastic month we have had here in the south east. Introducing countryside activities to this many people for the first time is just amazing. To be able to deliver this we cannot thank our volunteers enough.

“Support from individuals, coaches and clubs such as Langstone & District Wildfowlers, West Berkshire Gundog Club and Basingstoke Pistol & Air Rifle club is invaluable, we couldn’t do it without them.”

BASC chairman Peter Glenser QC said: “Shooting sports are something anyone can take part in and we are delighted to see so many new people trying it for themselves.”
