BASC has announced the 2016/17 dates for its Dorset stalking scheme. The scheme helps with management of deer populations and supports farming, forestry and conservation interests.
The scheme, now in its third year, offers BASC members a combination of high seat and accompanied foot stalking and is designed to provide practical follow-on experience for people who have completed the Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1.
In addition to the Dorset scheme, BASC also provides schemes for members at Hockwold Thetford, Isle of Arran and the Baronscourt Estate in Northern Ireland.
Sam Walker, from BASC’s game and deer management team, said: “The BASC deer stalking schemes have been set up to enable our members to take up shooting opportunities while contributing to deer population management. The schemes have been immensely successful, and the resulting demand for places stems from their popularity.”
BASC vice-chairman John Thornley said: “Management of deer populations is necessary to reduce damage to farming and forestry and also for nature conservation, all of which can suffer if deer numbers are not controlled.
“Our deer stalking schemes form part of a much wider picture in terms of the benefits and opportunities on offer to BASC members.”
Due to high demand, BASC members interested in booking a place on the scheme should contact BASC’s game and deer department by phoning 01244 573019 or emailing game.deer@0ld.basc.org.uk.
Bookings will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Full details of the scheme can be found here: https://0ld.basc.org.uk/deer-management/stalking-schemes/
