BASC has announced the dates of its Arran Stalking Scheme for the 2016/17 season. Bookings for the scheme will open at 10 a.m. on Monday 18th April and are on a first come first served basis. Due to an increased cull figure there will be an additional week for both stags and hinds this year.

The Arran scheme is one of four deer stalking schemes operated by BASC, others are in Dorset, Norfolk and County Tyrone. These unique schemes are designed to provide a variety of different stalking opportunities for members wishing to take it up or who have limited access to stalking of their own. They also provide members interested in deer stalking with the opportunity to gain practical experience and increase their knowledge.

In the case of the Arran scheme the stalking is in the southern half of the island for red deer on the open hill or in commercial forestry and is unaccompanied. BASC Members participating in the scheme must have their own deer calibre rifle, hold a DSC1 qualification and must hold, or be registered for, DSC Level 2. The stalking is over rough terrain and can be physically arduous. The cost of the scheme to members is £410 for eight outings for stags and £260 for eight outings for hinds. We work closely with Forest Enterprise Scotland (FES) to help ensure their objectives on the Island are met and to protect the environment from unacceptable damage by deer.
Glynn Evans, Head of Game and Deer Management at BASC said:

“BASC’s stalking schemes are part of the association’s objective to provide shooting opportunities for members. We also run a wildfowling permit scheme on club marshes around the UK. These are very popular with members and I expect the Arran scheme to be in high demand. The quality of the stalking for such a reasonable price is magnificent and provides a useful service in protecting forestry.”

The dates for the Arran stalking scheme are as follows:
