BASC NI runs range day for deer stalkers

BASC members in Northern Ireland are being invited to hone their shooting techniques and view the latest range of equipment at a rifle range day on Saturday 18 April.

The event, organised by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), will be held at the Baronscourt Estate range near Newtownstewart.

BASC Northern Ireland director Tommy Mayne said:  “This is an excellent opportunity for any BASC member holding the Deer Stalking Certificate level 1 (DSC 1), or for anyone booked on our August DSC 1 course, to come along as guest and practice their shooting technique. The day will also provide the opportunity to network with other deer stalkers and view a range of firearms and the latest stalking equipment.

“Participants can also hear about the BASC Baronscourt deer stalking scheme, both from BASC staff and from the estate’s professional stalking guides. Information will also be available on the Deerstalking Certificate level 2 portfolio and BASC’s other deer stalking schemes.”

NI Range day

Baronscourt Estate manager Matthew Stuart said:, “We look forward to hosting the range day and working with the BASC NI team once again. Accurate shooting is a crucial part of the management of deer populations which need to be controlled in order to reduce damage to woodlands and crops and also for nature conservation, all of which suffer if deer numbers are not controlled. The BASC range day provides stalkers with the opportunity to practice and improve their shooting techniques.”

The range day is being sponsored by BASC Trade Member firearms dealer AA Monteith and Son from Omagh, who will be in attendance displaying a wide range of stalking rifles and equipment.

The cost will be £20 per person and participants can choose to attend either the morning or afternoon session. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Please note if you plan to attend, you must bring your firearms certificate.   For more details or to book and pay for a place please contact the BASC NI team on 028 92 60 50 50 or email nire@0ld.basc.org.uk

Please note that all bookings must be made by Thursday 16th April at 12 noon.

BASC NI will be holding more range days later in the year which will be open to all BASC members.
