BASC has launched its latest film in the #NoMoorMyths series which aims to tackle the misinformation about grouse moors and shooting.
The film explains that grouse shooting provides a lifeline to isolated rural communities and also highlights its conservation benefits.
It has been released in the same week that a joint meeting of the Petitions Committee and the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee heard a witness claim that grouse shooting provides no economic benefits.
In fact, research shows that grouse shooting in England, Scotland and Wales has an estimated annual economic value of around £100 million and supports the equivalent of over 2,500 full-time jobs.
BASC’s northern director Duncan Thomas said: “We say in our first film that grouse shooting keeps a young gamekeeper in a job. This is the reality in these communities. The local shop, garage and B&B need the shooting community coming through their doors to keep them afloat.
“Our films tackle the myths which the internet trolls and celebrity bullies feel free to propagate exactly because their livelihoods don’t depend on telling the truth on such matters.”
BASC chairman Peter Glenser said: “Local economies are at serious risk from the alarmist campaigning of activists. This video highlights the importance of grouse shooting, as well as the damage that would be inflicted if it were to be banned.”
BASC is urging its members to continue to lobby their MPs on the benefits of grouse shooting ahead of a parliamentary debate on October 31. To access BASC’s campaign website click here: https://0ld.basc.org.uk/political-affairs/election-campaigns/
