BASC launch Green Shoots Mapping for smartphone

CaptureBASC’s popular Green Shoots Mapping software has been revamped to work on touchscreen tablets and smartphones.

The updated programme will now also allow members to record details of what they shoot with a new ‘Bagged It’ function which operates much like a shooting diary. Shooters can already record wildlife sightings using the ‘Seen It’ function.

Analysis of such data allows BASC to promote and protect shooting by providing facts and figures as evidence of sustainability.

Ian Danby, BASC’s head of biodiversity, said: “The bag data put into Green Shoots Mapping will be confidential between BASC and members.

“However, we can use anonymous, summary data from bag returns and shooting visits on a larger scale to demonstrate the sustainability of shooting. In addition records of wildlife sightings provided by members can be critical to enabling the wider conservation world to better understand where species currently are and contribute towards conservation initiatives.”

“Combining Green Shoots Mapping with bag recording is logical step as it offers a one-stop website to allow members to map shoots then record the wildlife they see and the shooting they do.”

The Green Shoots Mapping software, which allows users to download their shooting visits to an excel spreadsheet for in-depth analysis, has been designed on a software platform which maximises compatibility with a wide range of IT equipment.
