The UK’s largest shooting organisation has expanded its firearms team to deal with increasing demand for expert advice from members.
Simon Vann has joined BASC as a firearms officer and will be based at Marford Mill with the rest of the firearms team. He previously worked for Lancashire Constabulary and Gwent Police as a firearms enquiry officer. He also spent 10 years with the Ministry of Defence Police working with firearms and as a dog handler.
BASC boasts the UK’s only full-time firearms team, offering expert help and advice to members on all aspects of firearms law.
BASC is the UK’s largest shooting organisation with a membership of over 140,000. In August alone the firearms team dealt with 631 enquiries – an increase of 31 per cent on August last year.
Gary Ashton, BASC’s director of firearms operations, said: “Our unique firearms team provides a frontline service for BASC members. BASC is a growing organisation and we are expanding our firearms team to help support our members and deal with the firearms licensing renewal peak period this year.”
Peter Glenser, BASC Council member and barrister specialising in firearms law, said: “Access to BASC’s firearms team is just one of the unique benefits available to BASC members. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Simon to BASC, I look forward to working with him in the future.”
