The UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), has condemned the dumping of around 200 pheasants and ducks at the side of a road in Northern Ireland and called for information from the shooting community to help catch those responsible.
It was reported that the pheasants and a number of ducks were dumped in the Drumsurn area of Limavady in County Londonderry earlier this month.
It was claimed in a local newspaper this week, the County Derry Post, that a number of other dead animals including a sheep and a calf were also dumped in the same area.
BASC NI director Tommy Mayne said: “We utterly condemn the dumping of these birds. This is quite simply a waste of good food and whoever did it has no respect for quarry and cares little for any ethics or values. If anyone has any information on how these birds came to be dumped, and by whom, we would strongly urge them to contact the authorities or indeed the BASC Northern Ireland office on 028 92 60 50 50. We would urge all involved in sporting shooting to read and comply with the Code of Good Shooting Practice.”
