Commenting on the appointment of Eduardo Goncalves as the new Chief Executive of the League Against Cruel Sports Richard Ali, Chief Executive of BASC, the UK’s largest shooting organisation, said:
“This is an opportunity for Mr Goncalves to turn around the League and ensure that its arguments are based on sound evidence, robust science and that LACS observes charity commission guidance such as making assessments of public harms before acting – however, I’m not holding my breath.”
“The League against Cruel Sports has a reputation of misrepresenting shooting and other field sports and basing its arguments on emotion rather than hard evidence.”
“I note that Mr Goncalves formerly worked for Abu Dhabi’s environment agency. In which case he will be well aware of the importance of field sports and the central role it plays in Abu Dhabi’s heritage and culture. The same can be said of shooting in the UK, where those who shoot manage two-thirds of the rural land area, put £2 billion into the economy, spend £250 million on conservation and create the equivalent of 74,000 full time jobs.”
