BASC has expanded its dedicated wildfowling team with the appointment of a head of wildfowling and wildfowling officer ahead of the new season.
James Green starts as head of wildfowling early next month while Shane Robinson has already begun his role as the new wildfowling officer.
James has worked as BASC’s South West regional officer for the last 10 years, helping to build close working relationships with wildfowling clubs. He is a passionate ‘fowler and has featured in a series of popular films about the subject.
He said: “One of my first shooting memories was sat in the mud with my old man on the Tamar estuary some 30 years ago; the wildfowling bug took hold and I am pleased to say it excites me as much today as it did all those years ago.
“I can’t wait to start my new role. There is a lot of work to be done, but the opportunity to actively fight to protect the future of wildfowling is a true privilege.
“These are exciting times and I am confident that by working together, by presenting a united front and basing our position on facts and science, wildfowling will flourish. I am dedicated to the cause and look forward to working with others to secure a sustainable and responsible future for wildfowling.”
Shane is already known to many members, having previously volunteered for BASC at shows and events. He has a wealth of wildfowling experience and is chairman of Highbridge and Huntspill Wildfowlers Association in Somerset. Shane is coming back to his wildfowling roots, having grown up on the River Dee near BASC’s head office in Wrexham.
He said: “I’m excited by this job. As a wildfowler all my shooting life, the ability to meet with other wildfowlers and help individuals and clubs is a great opportunity to make a real difference to something I am passionate about.”
John Dryden, a member of BASC council and chairman of the association’s wildfowling liaison committee, said: “James and Shane are great ambassadors and active participants in wildfowling and will be a great addition to our team.”
