BASC has written to the Home Office and the Northern Ireland Department of Justice to request their support for the removal of Visitors’ Firearm and Shotgun Permit fees.
Visitors from within the EU coming to the UK to shoot currently have to pay a £12 fee or £60 group fee before they can bring their firearms here.
BASC believes this charge is a barrier to tourism.
Shooting activity generates tourism and helps local businesses.
A recent independent survey showed that more than half of shooting providers’ shoot activity leads to vistors staying in local accommodation.
This income is further boosted when the visitors spend money on goods and services.
BASC has stated in its letter that encouraging visitors to the UK to shoot will help to deliver more jobs and more growth.
Both the Home Office and the NI DoJ have been asked for their support to end the fees and instead to rely on the European Firearms Pass which has been set up by the European Union.
