BASC and Deer Initiative develop new training course for wild boar management

Following the announcement that the Deer Management Qualifications (DMQ) will be shortly launching a wild boar qualification, a training course has been developed by BASC, in cooperation with the Deer Initiative, to assist candidates.

The course, which will be launched alongside the qualification in the Autumn, is part of BASC’s on-going commitment of training and education, through humane and responsible management of wild boar.

The training will cover best practice and hunting methods in recognition of the increasing population and the need for management. Although the course is UK based, it does cover some European practices to help prepare the growing number of hunters travelling to Europe to hunt wild boar.

Based on a similar model as the highly successful Deer Stalking Certificate (DSC) Level 1, students will focus on both the theory and the practical in wild boar control. The training will prepare the candidate to undertake the DMQ Wild Boar Qualification assessments.

Nick Lane, BASC’s senior training development and quality assurance officer, said: “With an increasing population of wild boar in the UK, it is important that people are well trained to understand and humanely control these mammals. This new training course has been a combination of efforts and we are delighted to have developed this first of a kind course later in the Autumn. It should be considered for anyone wanting to enhance their knowledge and skills in wild boar management.”

Notes to Editors:
To undertake the assessment candidates must currently hold the Deer Stalking Level 1 Certificate.

Course dates, venues and further information will follow shortly on BASC website.
