This is a second consultation on dog control orders for the borough. In 2013 proposals for dog control orders were dropped following objections from a wide range of people and organisations, including Lough Foyle Wildfowlers’ Association and BASC. In its consultation response BASC explained that the proposals had the potential to unfairly impact on members of the shooting community engaged in the lawful pursuit of quarry and using a working gundog. BASC also proposed that working dogs should be exempt from the requirement to be kept on a lead whilst engaged in lawful sporting activities on the affected areas of land.
