Our first game management evening held at Rectory Farm near Tingewick was very successful and even though at 3.00pm the evening was looking likely to be a complete washout the rain eventually stopped before everyone ventured out around the shoot to the different talks and demonstrations.
Everyone was welcomed to the evening by Huw Lloyd, south east regional officer, before George Eaton, who owns the farm and shoot, gave an introduction to the conservation work that has gone on at the farm over the past 20 plus years. Ian Danby followed George with a presentation about BASC Green Shoots and the Green Shoots Mapping tool, showing some examples of how maps can be produced to demonstrate where feeders or traps are located on a shoot or where the guns should be placed.
Everyone was then split up into groups and headed outside to see talks and demonstrations on trapping, snaring and cover crops by the BASC Game & Gamekeeping department and Marc Bull from Kings Game Cover and Conservation Crops.
The evening ended with a buffet, kindly sponsored by Alan Anderson of Heygates Feeds.
We would like to thank all those who attended and to Marc Bull and Alan Anderson for contributing to the evening. We hope to hold similar game management events in the future so please keep an eye on the South East diary page. http://0ld.basc.org.uk/basc-south-east/south-east-diary/
