Working gundog owners who want to take part in next year’s gamekeeper classes at Crufts show have until 7th January to register. The UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), will once again host classes for gamekeepers, working dogs, teams and young handlers on the event’s gundog day on Saturday 9th March 2013 at the NEC in Birmingham.
BASC’s classes act as a showcase for working gundogs at the world’s largest dog show. All of the dogs will have recently finished a shooting season and Crufts gives handlers an opportunity to show the animals in their prime.
The top individual dogs owned by gamekeepers will go head-to-head in a final show in the main arena for the Best in Gamekeeping class title and the Northesk Memorial Trophy.
Glynn Evans, BASC’s head of game and gamekeeping, said: “This is a fabulous opportunity to see the best of the gundog world in one place. It is a unique experience and having taken part in the past as a competitor, it is one that I would recommend. The BASC game and gamekeeping team will look forward to welcoming you.”
A new element this year is the introduction of an invitation-only demonstration scurry in the main gamekeeping ring.
BASC is grateful to Chudleys Dog Food for sponsoring our gundog programme.
Schedules and entry forms are available from BASC’s gamekeeping team on 01244 573019. They can also be downloaded here.
