BASC vice-president, Lord Buxton of Alsa KCVO, MC, DL, has died aged 91 (on 1 September). He was also a vice president of the Blakeney and District Wildfowlers Association in Norfolk.
A founder director of Anglia Television, Lord Buxton created the Survival series of wildlife programmes which were watched by millions worldwide and co-founded the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Lord Buxton also served during the war as a major in the Royal Artillery in Burma, where he was said to have had his whole battery birdwatching.
BASC’s eastern regional director, William Heal, said: “Lord Buxton had a life long enthusiasm for wildlife and shooting, which went hand in hand. He exemplifies the close connection between the two and his work on habitat creation on the Norfolk coast is a fitting memorial to his interest in the countryside.”
