BASC has responded to a consultation that will be used to develop Natural Resources Wales’ strategic work over the next three years.
BASC has proposed working with the public body to help promote healthy quarry populations and habitats and to encourage access to shooting opportunities in Wales.
Natural Resources Wales recognises that the environment is one of our greatest resources and is vital for the range of services it provides. The management of at least half a million hectares in Wales is influenced by shooting sports. Over 40,000 hectaresare managed directly by people that shoot and they spend over £9.6 million annually on improving habitats and managing wildlife on that land. Shooting sports are worth £73 million annually to the Welsh economy.
In its consultation response BASC recommended that its Green Shoots programme in North Wales be expanded to cover all of Wales, that Natural Resources Wales increase shooting opportunities on its estate, particularly in woodlands, and that the public body supports the production and consumption of game meat in Wales.

Natural Resources Wales was created in 2013 and is the principal adviser to the Welsh Government. It is a public body with over 2,000 staff and brings together the functions of the Countryside Council for Wales, the Environment Agency in Wales and the Forestry Commission in Wales.
